Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use Meridian Insurance, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.

1. Who we are

Meridian Insurance Ltd ("Meridian", "we", "us") is the data controller of personal information you give us. We are registered in England and Wales, company number 13642857, and authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA Registration No. 967284).

2. Information we collect

To give you a quote and arrange cover, we collect:

• Identity and contact details: name, address, date of birth, email, phone.
• Cover details: what you want insured and any relevant history (claims, convictions, prior policies).
• Payment information, handled by our payment provider. We do not store full card details.
• Chat transcripts: messages you send to our Smart Chat Service and to your agent.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, collected via cookies (see our Cookie Policy).

3. Why we use it

We use your information to:

• Provide a quote and arrange and manage the policy you ask for.
• Carry out identity, anti-fraud and credit checks where required.
• Comply with our regulatory obligations under the FCA.
• Improve our service, with your information aggregated or pseudonymised where possible.
• Send you service messages about your policy. We will not send marketing without your consent.

4. Lawful basis

We rely on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR: performance of a contract (to arrange your cover), legal obligation (to meet FCA and HMRC requirements), legitimate interests (to prevent fraud and improve our service), and consent (for any marketing).

5. Who we share it with

We share your information with regulators where required, with our IT and payment providers under written contracts, and with credit reference and fraud prevention agencies. We do not sell your information.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your policy records for at least seven years after a policy ends, in line with FCA rules. Quote enquiries that do not become a policy are deleted after 24 months.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your information, correct it, request deletion, object to processing, and request portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact our data team at privacy@meridian.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

8. Changes to this policy

We will post any changes here and update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be sent to active policyholders by email.
